Early on in '74 and '75 before I worked at the Neptune when Paul and I went to the U-District we'd usually eat at the Herfy's on 50th and Brooklyn. There was another Herfy's at Aurora Village, which was an uncovered mall at the time; we often caught buses and transfers there. Once I got a job I ended up eating sub sandwiches from Gilly's in 43rd
Within a few years the Outrageous Taco opened next door to Herfy's and I'd often get an outrageous burrito for dinnner. I still remember those fondly, cooked fresh to order and very good, first time I can recall putting jalapenos on anything. I also discovered "Man Bites Dog" with wonderful bratwursts, robust mustard, chewy buns and saurkraut. I also ate way too much at Skippers on the Ave, usually stopping in for the "All You Can Eat" when I worked on Tuesdays. I eventually started developing a weight problem - too sedentary while eating too much food.
Late at night we might stop at the IHOP on Brooklyn and 43rd, or often we'd stop at a Denny's - sometimes at Northgate, sometimes 205th & Aurora, occasionally at 160th & Aurora or at the Cricket on Eastlake.
I wasn't into good food all that much. I did occasionally go to China First and Rasa Malaysia, and once I got a higher income with programming I was able to afford much nicer places, but that was later.
